Get Connected

As we arrive at Matthew 16, we come to a pivotal passage where Jesus is about to make a life shift. This is the second shift we have witnessed. The Bible calls it a from that time moment. Matthew 4:17~From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (ESV) With Jesus moving into ministry we witness the greatest miracles as He moves throughout the region. Now here in Matthew 16, He moves toward the cross. Matthew 16:21~From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. (ESV) Later in Matthew 26:16, we will see the final turn towards His death in our stead as Judas seeks to betray Him.

Christ Jesus has just warned His disciples about the corrupting influence of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Still somewhere on the Gentile side of the Sea, the move towards Caesarea. Matthew 16:13~Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, Who do people say that the Son of Man is? (ESV) Who do you say Christ Jesus is? About 25 miles northeast of the Galilean Sea, Jesus gives the disciples another test. Though this one is not wet from a storm on the high seas, nor does it come from a lack of substance where the people are hungry. No, this one comes in the form of a question.
