Abundant Grace

Have you ever really considered God’s untold power? (Matthew 22:23-33) It was only moments later, while Jesus was still in the Temple complex of Jerusalem, that He was poked by some sharp questions about paying taxes. Luh! Still, it is something we all must do. Matthew 22:23~The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question. We need to understand the Sadducees are sad because they do not believe in angels or the resurrection of the dead. Daniel 12:2~Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. (NIV)

That’s a great verse to share that there is life in Jesus Christ. Though this is an Old Testament scripture that speaks apocalyptically of the end times, the Sadducees, sadly reject it. For they only accepted the first five books of the Old Testament as scripture. Sadducees only accept the Torah or Pentateuch. Now Torah means teaching AKA the law, or the Five Books of Ole Mo. The rest of the Old Testament is broken into two more parts the Nevi’im Prophets, and the Ketuvim or Writings. Collectively known as this TaNaKh.

Sadducees reject all resurrection because they don’t find it in the Torah. Thus, they ask Jesus a question they think will reveal the absurdity of believing in the resurrection. Matthew 22:24~Teacher, Moses said, If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. (ESV) According to the Law, the next living male relative has this responsibility. Deuteronomy 25:5~If brothers are living together and one of them dies without a son, his widow must not marry outside the family. Her husband’s brother shall…marry her…(NIV) Deuteronomy 25:6~The first son she bears shall carry on the name of the dead brother…(NIV)

Imagine if you had to marry your sister-in-law. Some of you ought to raise your hands and thank the Lord for grace. The truth is we all ought to truly thank the Lord for His many blessings in our lives. Why not take time to call out to the Lord today and thank Him for His wonderful grace. It is because of the work of Jesus at Calvary, fulfilling the law that we are freed from its obligations. Grace is truly a wonder, even the best gift we have ever received. As we remain socially conscious of all that is going on in our world, we need to be reminded that every good and perfect gift is from God. Take time to thank God for the blessings in your life today.
